1. What does your Deviantart name mean and why?
Back when I was in elementary school Dad wrote a Star Trek campaign loosely based on A. E. Van Vogt's The War Against the Rull, where really all he lifted was the name "Rull" and the centipede-like alien on the cover. A few years later he didn't like that he'd fully lifted the name, so we did some dictionary diving for centipede names (since the centipede-like alien species was still fully original). Scolopendra is Latin for "centipede," is used scientifically as a family name for certain kinds of centipedes, and sounded cool. The "Rull" became the Scolopendrans. After moving out in 2002, I got involved with NationStates ( www.nationstates.net ) and needed a nation name. Latin was sufficiently obscure, so I went with "Scolopendra." This eventually became my primary Internet handle.

It wasn't absolutely original, however, so variants appeared. On IRC, I used variations on "TheCentipedeDoesStuff" as idle handles, and when "Scolopendra" wasn't available as an account name I tended to use TheCentipede. As it is here.

2. What fandom were you obsessed with when you joined and what are you into now?

4. Name 3 of your favorite artists on DA.
:iconcolourbrand: He says nice things about me despite having enough skill to knock me into a cocked hat.
:iconsteampoweredmikej: I grew up on his official FASA art. I've already let him know that it's probably part of the reason I'm an engineer today.
:iconsteel-raven: Now that we live in the same city, we're gaming buddies. And he's better at this than I am.
:iconroguebaron: Maybe a bit too much into feet for my tastes, but hey, I don't judge. ;)

5. Or lack thereof, move along…

6. Do you participate in clubs' contests here on dA?

Nope.

7. What is your most popular submission?

By favorites, the Buksyr 'Mech Company DropShip. I have no idea why, other than it's also the most viewed. This suggests that it's getting the most 'airplay,' as it were.

By comments, PonyTech. I got my first troll on that one.

8. What are your favorite non-anime TV shows?

I hate these questions, since I'm one of those guys who doesn't actually have TV service (cable or broadcast). MLP is an obvious contender but, if "anime" can be interpreted as cartoons in general, I quite enjoyed earlier seasons of Castle and Person of Interest. I'm well behind in both.
